UK Visa Advisory

There are different types of visas to be eligible to gain entry to the United Kingdom for either work, study or business

TYPE OF UK VISAS

WORK VISA

UK has strict visa rules, however, it still offers work visas especially for high professionals from other countries who wish to work and live in the UK.

There are different categories of work visas;

  • 1. Short term worker visas.
  • 2. Graduate visas.
  • 3. Sponsors and sponsorship.

1. SHORT TERM WORKER VISA

  • Temporary work-charity worker visa-Available for individuals willing to do unpaid voluntary work for a charity. One must have a certificate of sponsorship reference number from your UK sponsor. Additionaly, one needs enough money for support in the UK, at least 1270 sterling pounds. Unless you are exempted, the money need to be available for at least 28 days in a row.
  • Temporary work- creative worker visa-for persons who have been offered work in the UK as creative workers, either as a dancer, actor or film crew member. It has replaced the international sports person visa.
  • Temporary work- Government Authorised Exchange Visa-short term visas for work experience or to do training, an overseas government language programme, research or fellowship through an approved government authorized exchange scheme
  • Temporary work- International Agreement visa-for persons contracted to do work covered by international law or treaty while in the UK.
  • Temporary worker visa-Religious worker visa-for persons who want to do religious work in a non-pastoral role or religious order.
  • Temporary work –Seasonal Worker Visa-for persons working in seasons for example work in edible horticulture for 6 months
  • Youth mobility scheme visa-for youth aged 18-30 years looking to live in the UK for upto 2 years.

GRADUATE VISA

UK graduate visa gives you permission to stay in the UK for at least 2 years after successfully completing a course in the UK

STUDENT VISA

There are three categories of student visas:

  • Student visa
    One can apply for a student visa to study in the UK if you are 16 and above, there are certain conditions that must be ascertained:

    I. Must have been offered a place on a course by a licensed student sponsor.
    II. Must have enough money for support throughout the course, the amount varies depending on the circumstances, https://www.gov.uk/student-visa/money.
    III. Can speak, read, write and understand English, https://www.gov.uk/student-visa/knowledge-of-english.
    IV. Must seek consent from parents if you are 16 or 17 and attach evidence for proof.
    V. Must pay the healthcare surcharge depending on how long you will bw in the UK

    Application of the student visa can be done 6 months before you start your course, the length of stay varies from course of study. However, if you are 18years of age and above you can stay in the UK for up to 5 year, if it’s below degree level, one can stay for up to 2 years in the UK.
    One has the liberty to extend the visa for study, and can also switch to student visa if on another visa. Also one can switch to a graduate visa to stay in the UK foe at least 2 years after successfully completing the course. As a student you can bring your partner and children (dependents) to the UK.

  • Child student visa
    Children aged 4 and 17 can make an application to study at an independent school in UK. The student must have an unconditional offer of a place on a course at an independent school, must be able to show access to enough financial support UK and payment of the course, and must have consent of the guardian or parent to study in the UK.
  • Short term study visa
    One can also apply a short term study visa to study English language in the UK.
  • FAMILY VISA

    One can apply for a family visa to live with spouse, fiancé. child, parent or relative.

    Partner or spouse.

    If one has a partner who is a native of UK or has settled in the UK and has proof of permanent residence, they can apply for a family visa. During the appllication you and your partner must prove that you intend to live together permanently in the Uk. You also need to prove that:

  • You are in a civil partnership or marriage recognized in the UK
  • Must have been living together for atleast 2 years.
  • Fiancé’, fiancée or proposed civil partner will marry or enter into a civil partnership in the UK within 6months of arriving
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Can financially support yourself and dependents
  • Child visa

    A child can apply for a visa to join their parent in the UK. However, you may not need a family visa if at least one of your parents has indefinite leave to remain in the UK or proof of permanent residence.
